Gameworld: Tween players impacting online game development
With teens all the way to old men who never seemed to grow up online games included Second Life, World of Warcraft, and Battlefield games in which they substitute physical interaction with virtual socialization. Recently Online game producers are now targeting tweens ages 8 to 11, with games such as Disney’s club penguin to Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures. What a good idea on the game producer’s part. Tweens do not have jobs and don’t have a ton of homework like teens do. They have tons of spare time plus they have parents who most likely haven’t set the responsibility of having to pay for the stuff they want yet. I even know some teens that play these games. Unfortunately what parents aren’t realizing is that it’s still the internet and there’s still sick people on these sits that some games cannot detect. I personally play online games, but when it comes to younger kids they should have limits so not to become addicted and be supervised from time to time so in case something bad occurs you can prepare your child. There is no reason to be scared of these sites just be careful. With great games comes great responsibility!

By tweens being the newest large population of online gamers their parents must be paying for these games, does this occurrence help the economy or hurting it by not purchasing non-virtual items?

Gameworld: Tween players impacting online game development

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100902/wr_nm/us_videogames_online_2

    Summary Statement:
Boys and girls around the age of 8-11 are helping by putting and increase on online gaming in the past years. They help online games such as “Club Penguin” and “Free Realms” become very successful by making it a priority to play these games just about every day. As they get older, they get into more sophisticated online games such as “world of Warcraft” and other games that can be played through the access of “Xbox Live.” Online gaming is also putting increase on families purchasing broadband internet access.

    Facts:
    1. The number of families with broadband Internet access has increased substantially in the past several years and this has greatly helped make online gaming accessible to a younger audience
    2. Sony Online Entertainment has attracted over 12 million "Free Realms" players in North America and Europe in its first 16 months and plans on expanding the game to China.
    3. In particular, we are starting to see more references of 'World of War craft' and Xbox Live showing up on the 'preferred games lists' for boys, and Facebook games showing up for girls.
    4. a new M2 Research Report, "Kids and Games: What Boys and Girls Are Playing," found 91 percent of boys and 93 percent of girls aged 8-11 are playing games online on a regular basis.

    Prediction:
As time goes by, more advanced online games will be made and will attract even more people to play this games then it does now.

I understand that the online gaming industry is a very successful business and their success will keep increasing with the increasing amount of people playing online games everyday.

    Opinion:
Business should slow down on the advances of online gaming because people will start to go overboard with online gaming and become way to addicted and they will start to isolate themselves from the real world.

Question: In what ways do teens put an impact on online gaming?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Online gaming:Online gaming is a huge factor in todays society. teens from 13 to adults that have families. they never seem to grow up. about 90% of people in the world play online games as something thats apart of their lives. Games vary from rated E for every one to rated M for mature. But theres a problem with some of these games and its about addiction. Some people may say that theres no such thing as game addiction but its a serious problem with us teens. Some are so addicted to games that they dont even bother about doing their homework, and thats horrible for teen grades and can possibly get them retained in school. But online games do have their good sides to. Like some games such as MODERN WARFARE 2 can teach teens about what hapens in the army in many different points of views.

So in other words online games have their good and bad sides. THe game industry is making good money right now with all teen and tweens buying them.

Xbox Live Gold subscribers face price increase

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20015064-1.html

Gold members of Microsoft's Xbox Live premium gaming online service should expect a $10 price boost in yearly memberships starting November 1. Annual membership price will be raised up from $50 to $60, three-month subscriptions will be raised from $20 to $25, and monthly subscriptions will be raised from $8 to $10. Gamers in the U.S. aren't the only ones suffering from raised membership prices; members in Canada, Mexico, and the U.K. will see raises in costs as well.

    Facts
    1. Xbox live currently has over 23 million members
    2. There are 27 countries with access to Xbox Live
    3. Over 85% of connected Xbox 360 consoles have already downloaded content from Xbox Live Marketplace.
    4. 41.7 million Xbox units sold worldwide

In conclusion I think that many gamers will turn to Sony’s Playstation 3 instead of Xbox 360 because of the free online capabilities offered as opposed to priced memberships. I also predict that more free Xbox content will come out, and that is the reason for the price increase.

Background Info: Xbox live is one of the leading online gaming resources in the word, and is one of the most widely used sources for online gaming interactions. I understood that the price increase is not drastic enough to lose a significant amount of users

My opinion is that they should not raise the price of Xbox live

Question: After the price raise, is Xbox live still goes to attract many users in our current economic state?

Has MS handed the online gaming crown to Sony?

    http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=262545

Author Summary: Microsoft revolutionized online play with its release of live service. The price was reasonable, and online mechanics have been reliable. However they're planing on increasing the price in the near future from $8 to $10 monthly. This is raising some concern for gamers on a budget. Ps3 offers free online play and may have the advantage in the future because of this. However the ps3 online play mechanics are somewhat awkward. But the xbox 360's live service might be so good it will not be affected by this small price change.

    Facts
1.Microsoft will increases it's price in the near future
2.Microsoft increased it's price due to major updates
3.Ps3 offers a free online play
    4.Microsoft has more online content

    Prediction

Well I suppose some people not a lot might cancel subscriptions. But overall Microsoft will increase its profit from this change. With the content being added they need more money to pay for the host servers.

I understand now that microsoft will do whatever they can to increase profits.

Opinion: I see where they're coming at this from a business profit point of view, however I wish they would cut people some slack with the recession going on.

Question:Is more online play content(xbox live gold) worth the pay rather than a more simple online play that is free(ps3's psn)?

    China's Online Gaming Industry

    http://blogs.forbes.com/russellflannery/2010/08/25/chinas-online-gaming-industry-faces-demographic-battle/?boxes=financechannelforbes

China's gaming industry was growing at a fast rate, but it's expected to and has already started to slow down.
    Facts:
-Online Gaming requires people with a lot of time
-Several years ago Mao Zedong encouraged population increase
-When the children were children they raised online gaming rates
-thosechildren have now turned adults and have no time, causing this decrease

I predict that the high gaming rates will decrease but will not die out completely.
This is because the major gaming population from Mao Zedong's time has grown, but there are still chldren there to keep u the gaming industry.

I understand that Online Gaming requires a lot of users, and time. Wthout spare time, the gaming industry would be no more.

I think that the people should still carry on wit their lives, even if it's busy, but still have spare time to do something fun such as gaming.

How would you interest people in online gaming?

    2. My topic is about online gameing for all ages such as EA Games, But people includeing me do games such as "Free Realms" "Second Life" "Star Wars Galaxies" "Age Of Conan" etc etc..My list can go on and on. I predict that games such as theses will not go down in gameing rates because of their high ammount of players. But if they keep updateing it like they do everyday and add new items every day of the week I think that the subscribers will go down. I understand that online games require a lot of users, time, and most of all PATIENCE!! because if you do not have patience you will end up with a game like runescape...Just kidding but still it will look like a mess with constent updates and nothing more.
3.Well first of all such as games like World Of Warcraft (WoW). How many parents do YOU know that play that game? If you see the number of adults whom play Games such as WoW and whatnot. Think of the teen/kid players that also play that game. For me I used to play SecondLife. It was all adults. But I played on the teen grid. If more game developers such as the game SecondLife who makes a grid for BOTH teen and adults. Why can't more gamers do that? But who knows.
4.My prediction that online games will never fail. Since new technology is coming and things such as "Virtual World Helmets" in the future. Who knows what games can come. We need more people such as game desiners and such to keep this alive.
5.I myself used to play games and STILL DO! I play Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) Such as above (www.starwarsgalaxies.com) Its a supscribed game from SOE. I have been playing Online games since I was 9 years old. Not even I was about 6 When I discovered the internet. Who knows what kids can acomplish! Think about it! I was 6 years old and was looking through the internet such as "Youtube" (www.youtube.com), and at the age of 9 my friend told me about a online game. So I went to www.mmorpg.com and found games. There I discovered Star Wars Galaxies. Now my game and I play it everyday before and after school.
6.I understood the time it takes for games to develope as well as people includeing ADULTS should at least have some SPARE TIME off the computer and get active.
    7. I love this topic and I hope we can talk about it more and more in dept and share our online gameing experiances with eachother.
    8. How would you think if your parents played the same game as you?

Selling on Facebook: 4 Common Issues

    http://www.practicalecommerce.com/articles/2247-Selling-on-Facebook-4-Common-Issues

    Summary:
A Practical Ecommerce webinar is addressed on how merchants can tap into the Facebook to help grow sales. Facebook now provides a shopping cart application. The Author believes that Facebook is not a place of shopping but more for social networking. Many believe Facebook should allow ecommerce because it is now officially the number one most visited site on the web and should include such features.

    Facts:
1.Facebook is the leading social network. Not only that, earlier this year it surpassed Google as the most visited site.
2.Facebook brings in more than $630 million in revenue from advertising.
3.Ecommerce on Facebook tends to promote brands, drive fans to other ecommerce websites, and reshapes the buying experience.
4.Facebook brings in more than $630 million in revenue from advertising and fans spend $71.84 more annually on consumer products than do non-fans.

    Prediction:
I think ecommerce should be an additional feature to Facebook because the website would result in tons of new members and visitors thus adding to the salary that the Facebook Company receives every year.

I understand that including ecommerce in Facebook will affect Facebook greatly. Some users will no longer use Facebook for the reason it was created for, social networking, and only use it for buying and selling online.

    Question:
Do you think shopping and selling should be an additional feature to Facebook?

    3. Many people are switching to the internet to buy their goods, many sales are exclusive to only customers, online purchases are growing every month, a wider variety of goods can be bought online than in your local area.
    4. I predict that the team at Home Depot will take extra care to prevent this from happing again
    5. Just before the Memorial Day weekend, Home Depot launched a redesigned online sale website. Home Depot lost many sales that day because on the online error.
    6. I understand that e-commerce is a big part of Home Depots sales and that because of the crash they lost a lot of sales.
    7. My opinion is that they should have foreseen this problem and prevented it because of the extent and size of the Home Depot franchise, they are not taking proper measures to run things smoothly.

    http://mashable.com/2010/05/07/facebook-open-graph-ecommerce/

This article based on how Facebook would open graph E-commerce. Like how other company’s would promote their website or product just by using Facebook. Such like Amazon, Google, or just that “like” button. If people like the statement they click the like button. So company’s used that too estimate how many people use or like their merchandise.

    Facts:
1.According to Nielsen, 90% of people trust recommendations from people they know, and Facebook’s “like” button is the perfect way to recommend a product to a friend.

2.This kind of marketing is priceless — it brings instant social trust to that website.

3.Facebook user has 200 friends, this type of social trust factor could be huge, and Facebook’s new recommendation and “like” tools will play a huge role.

4.Can pull your Open Graph via Facebook’s API, this information can be used to personalize an online store based on your past purchases, likes, and preferences quite easily.

    Prediction:

Soon facebook will be another Amazon or e-bay, buying and selling on the website.

I understand what E-commerce is and how it used for. Also know what websites are meant for e-commerce. Just how facebook has e-commerce websites to show there self’s off and product.

    Opinion:

My opinion is that soon every website would turn like that, or mostly are because that what websites are usually used for and made for.

    Question:

Would facebook be a good website for E-commerce?

Trevon Melendres Apple Ripens- Harvest Time Is Here http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/70877.html

The author’s point of view is that the Apple’s iPad sold well in China last week and hopes to sell the iPhone 4 just as much on the 25th of September 2010. Apple has to retail stores in China, Beijing and Shanghai. Apple plans to open two new ones (another each in those two cities) when the iPhone 4 plans to hit stores on the 25th.
Four facts that support this is that 1. The iPad launched in China last week had enthusiastic reception. 2. In addition Apple also sorted out some of the problems on the iPad for the release in China 3. Though the iPad was sold for a reasonable price some people are questioning that the iPhone 4 will be too expensive for Chinese consumers. 4. No one will know what will happen with the sales until it happens on the 25th.
I predict that the iPhone 4 will sell very well just as it did in America, maybe even more. I predict this because Apple probably made slight changes and fixes, which will help Apple, sell more of their products online and in stores.
The iPhone 4 should sell very exceptionally because there are more apps and still more to come. There are also many different features such as the front camera and HD on videos. This may sound all nice, but Apple has a lot of competition, for example with the new Android and other smart phones springing up.
I understood that Apple has a lot to deal with their competition and sales.
My opinion on this topic is that I think it is very interesting and interested on how many iPhones will be sold and how it will help Apple.
How good do you think the sales are going to be? And how this will affect Apple?

  17. Giving Consumers to many options can cause a sale to disappear
    http://www.lexiconn.com/blog/2010/09/are-your-shipping-options-losing-you-sales/

Ecommerce store owners often spend hours agonizing over the flow of the cart, whether there are too many images / distractions, removing insecure warnings, and making the cart easy to read and easy to check out. Lost in all of this is how shipping options are actually presented to the shopper. And what options are actually included. It’s possible that your shipping options, as they are now, could be losing you sales. When it comes to how you display the available shipping options to your customers, a dropdown menu may not be the ideal solution. Sure, the dropdown may look nicer for your particular design, but it may be causing your shoppers all sorts of problems. Instead of a dropdown menu for shipping, use a radio button system. This way all of the options are clearly visible on the screen. Don’t cause shopper paralysis where too many choices can lead to confusion and the inability of a customer to make a shipping selection. Present enough options to cater to shoppers who either want fast shipping, or the lowest cost method. By doing such changes you can stop losing consumers for such silly reasons
    • Don’t confuse your costumers
    • Give them a overall options
    • Don’t over crowd them with chooses
    • The more visible the choice is the better
E-commerce are better of giving people a simpler choice with less options and wide choice from fast shipping to less costly shipping that’s best for single individuals.
My opinion is that it’s a good idea to give the consumers a clear choice of options with a visual view of all of them, helps to stop consumers from experiencing confusing choices.
Does the choice of too many options cause problems?

    http://www.cmswire.com/cms/web-engagement/women-on-the-web-too-many-to-ignore-008191.php

This article shows survey results comparing the time women and men have spent on the computer on average, what is looked up or visited by them, and social networking sites. It goes on to explain that the reason that this is important is that it can show web designers what gender they can target as the main audience for their sites. The article brings up some good points in that women can do as much as men can do involving the internet. That they are just as computer savvy as guys can be. It basically says that Women can do just as much as guys can when it comes to being online and setting up internet codes.

    FACTS

    1. Women spend as much time online or more time than men do.
    2. Women have proven to be the driving forces behind key consumer decisions.
    3. Women are computer savvy as much as men are. Women are just as valuable as men are when it comes to making websites.
    4. Women can and have surpassed men in areas involving the internet and there is nothing wrong with that.

Men and women can both work on websites and come up with fantastic results.

Some background information on the social sites, time spent on these sites by women outweigh time spent by their male counterparts in every global region. People at the ages 15-24 have the highest reach and the heaviest usage when it comes to social networking sites like FaceBook and MySpace.

From the article, it clearly shows the statistics with graphs and reasonable facts about each sub-topic that they discuss.
The article just proves that women can do just as much as men can when it comes to technology and that this article could be used to persuade anyone that might have a stereotypical view on computers and technology.

Question: How far have women come in this day-in-age from where they started out in society in the older days?

Hackers Infiltrate D.C. E-Voting System, Force Testing Delays
    http://consumerist.com/2010/10/hackers-infiltrate-dc-e-voting-system-force-testing-delays.html

The government has been testing their security by allowing hackers to try to bypass it. The hackers managed to breach the system, causing delays for the E-Voting System to come online. D.C. officials are now patching up faults in the system.

    1.E-Voting System is hackable
2.Officials need to fix the bugs in the system
3.Actual E-Voting use will be delayed
4.Corruption could occur unless they fix the system

I predict that we WILL see more of E-Voting in the future. However by then it will be a secured way of voting.

Opinion:I'm glad they gave hackers a chance at testing their security; because of this we see that the current system is indeed hackable.

Question:Should we give hackers the chance to hack government based systems and will it lead to potential future hacks on the government ?

    Security Fears over E-voting

Summary Statement: New technologies that allow voters to cast their ballots over the Internet are becoming more popular in the US and elsewhere, even though fears about the security of the systems are rising.
    4 Facts Supporting the article:
-Online voting systems are extremely easy to hack.
-A group of computer scientists were actually able to hack into the system just minutes after it was put onto the Internet for testing.
-After this attack, it is guaranteed that the same occurrence could happen again and it might be done by someone more evil. (muahahaha)
-Even though online voting empowers a lot of people, especially those with disabilities that inable them from going to the polls, the risk of someone hacking into the system is much more important.
Prediction: The VVF (Verified Voting Foundation) will continue to try and fix the problem before putting it back on the Internet for public use.
What I understood: Online voting could be very beneficial, but the risks are much to high to make it available for public use quite yet.

    Is E-Voting safe?
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/115608/is_evoting_safe.html

Summary: E-voting is on electronics and the number of electoral votes. They’re asking if it’s safe because they came up with different technology today to vote. Most technology can make errors or mess up on your voting. For who knows the numbers of votes can come out inaccurate. Voting is anonymous, no one should be tag under any name and people are curious if they are. There are numerous problems that made the people nervous on voting because many have got there’s deleted, never counted, or have crashed in front of them .

    Facts:
1.Most important, touch-screen systems can reduce several common mistakes voters make in the booth.

2.But as the California primary proved in March, such e-voting systems have flaws of their own.

3.But generally, their margin of "residual votes"--those thrown out because of error--was within the range of other voting technologies

4.The federal Help America Vote Act of 2002 supplied nearly $4 billion in funding to replace punch-card and lever machines, but mandated that states receiving the funds must replace those machines by this November.

Prediction: I predict that soon there’s going to be presidents elected that shouldn’t even elected for president because of maybe one vote messed up from E-voting.

I understand the meaning of E-voting is and how it affects today’s society. Also how it runs on electronics and some electronics wouldn’t be accurate depending on what could happen. Which makes people nervous on if there vote counted or not.

Opinion: Before people are ready to vote they should either check and fixed every booth with it, to see if it’s working right. Or to prevent all of the problems, they should go back to voting on paper.

Question: Do you think the government should have a vote on E-voting or paper voting?

The author of this article is trying to state that e-voting would be convenient for people, but their votes would not be safe.
    - The System was put on the internet for testing
    - The system was breached almost instantly
    - Computer scientists from the University of Michigan were able to modify ballots, change passwords, and even play the school’s fight song
    - The professor also found out that other hackers including from other countries were trying to do the same thing.
I predict that they will continue to work on the system and secure the system. Susan Dzieduszycka-Suinat, president of the Overseas Vote Foundation which helps Americans abroad in elections, said the group is not ready to endorse online voting. The system is to be improved, but it may take a while.
I understand from this story that e-voting would be a lot easier and more convenient for the population, but there is a risk in using it. The vote is not completely secure and can even be changed. While it may be convenient for your schedule, it’s not convenient for your vote.
I think that e-voting would be a nice advancement in our country, but it’s not worth it if it doesn’t work properly and could compromise national votes.
Would you trust your vote to be submitted via e-voting?

  27. E-voting Rights.

Electronic voting (also known as e-voting) is a term encompassing several different types of voting, embracing both electronic means of casting a vote and electronic means of counting votes.
The Author’s point of view is he strongly believes in e-voting and it should be a method of voting because:
    • Quicker voting times
    • Easier ways of voting for the candidate of your choice
    • Old and young people love computers so they will make fun while voting
    • You can watch the candidates videos to get a better idea of who you voting for
Old time method of voting have been played out and nobody wants to go sit in a booth for two to three minutes and stare at a pen and paper, So with the computer they will play more attention to what they are doing and make the right voting choice.

Summary: online voting has many advantages and many disadvantages. Many agree with online voting, hence they don’t have to wait half an hour in a long line just to vote. They think it is much easier to just vote online, which can save people tons of time. However, the development of e-voting has introduced a new danger online voting. Even though e-voting increases voting participation, the security of it isn’t so strict. When the online voting was put on for a test, a security breach came in. Alex Halderman said it was extremely easy and it only took him about three hours to hack and take control of the whole system. The author remains questioned upon e-voting.

    Facts:
1.A total of 33 US states are allowing some email, fax or online ballots in 2010, according to the Verified Voting Foundation, a group that monitors security of election systems.
2.Electronic voting "empowers" voters including people with disabilities who cannot get to polling places, troops abroad and others living outside their home countries, including some six million Americans.
3.Return to paper and pencil "will disenfranchise many people," and fail to get out some younger, tech-savvy voters.
4.Vulnerability questions remain, whether the systems accept votes directly online or by email or fax.

I understand that e-voting has many benefits but has a flaw in the security system, however I think that they will learn to build a much safer and stricter security for the system, allowing others to vote easily online.

Question: Do you believe that e-voting will benefit many people, or will people just begin to take advantage of it?

New technologies allowing voters to cast ballots via the Internet or other electronic means are catching on in the United States and elsewhere, even as fears mount about security of the systems. A team of computer scientists from the University of Michigan had little trouble infiltrating the system, modifying ballots, changing the password. Within the first three hours or so of looking at the code we found the first open door and within 36 hours we had taken control of the system. To make matters worse, Halderman discovered that other hackers from Iran and China were trying to hack to system too.
    • System can be hacked
    • Can be changed to make a targeted person to win
    • Its brand new still being worked on
    • New wave of voting
The topic of online voting is great so that people won’t have to stay in line waiting to vote for hours. When all they have to do is take a couple of minutes at home or on the phone to cast their vote online.
This new system can be great but it can be hacked within a couple of hours. This allows for anyone to do anything to the system so all votes go to one person. Going back to the old form of voting will scare young adults from voting, most won’t want to stand in lines when they can just vote through their phone. Overall, is a great thing but it needs work before we put it into a bigger use.

Do electronic machines improve the voting process

    http://votingmachines.procon.org/

    Authors summary:

In this blog the author is explaining about proponents and opponents arguing about e-voting which is electronic voting. Proponents says that E-voting can improve the voting process. Also that e-voting machines are secure, and capture the intent of a voter. They also explains that its reliable, and easy to use. To go along with that he says e-voting gives faster results, and non English speakers can use it too. But on the other hand opponents are saying that it gives to much power over public elections. And that the electronics can be tampered and hacked.

    Facts:

1.E-voting can speed up the process of voting.

    2. Computers may be tampered and or hacked

3.It may be set to different languages

    4.Faster results

    Conclusion:

I personally believe that this idea will grow bigger no matter what cause we must continue in the future.

    Understanding:

From this story I found out that e-voting can be a very usefull and and bad thing at the same time. It has to be secure before using.

    Opinion:

I think this is a great idea but it can be dangerous to and that what the people need to fix.

    Question:

What can the voters do to make this a great idea.

Technology is getting more and more advance. There are now 33 states that are allowing some email, fax and online votes in this year. This may increase voting in other countries too. It’s some trouble trying to keep up with the codes and passwords and keeping people from hacking in so that’s one negative. Some people refuse to vote online because they feel unsafe. With the online voting there is no way to do recounts. Paul DeGregorio, chief of elections for the electronic voting firm Everyone Counts, says Internet systems currently in use in many locations including in Europe and Asia have withstood security challenges. E-voting is also helpful to people who are disable to go to the polls also troopers who are outside their countries. It gets younger voters to vote on their cell phones or on the computer instead of stand in long lines with no patience’s. Susan Dzieduszycka-Suinat president of the Overseas Vote Foundation says the group is not ready to endorse online voting."At this point, there really isn't any proven, safe ballot return over the Internet that has gone through any certification that is agreed upon," she said.

    1. Summary: 33 states are allowing some email, fasx or online ballots in 2010. Security systems are used in several other countries, can increase votes but security may remain a question. The Security branch came in September of 2010. Computer Scientists from the University of Michigan had little trouble to take over the system, examine ballots, and changing the password. C: Paul said the critics of online voting “are well-meaning but tget fail to take into account the context.
D: Pamela Smith said that some systems can be compromised.

E-voting critic released on bail (finally)

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/08/30/indian_evoting_critic_jailed/

A man was released on bail this weekend after spending a week in jail for exposing serious vulnerabilities in India's electronic voting machines. The arrest was under the charge of stealing an EVM belonging to the Indian government. The accused stated that he obtained it legally but would not state where or from whom he obtained it. He returned the EVM two days later after “stealing” it.

    1. Hari Prasad is the technical coordinator of a group called VeTA (Verifiability, Transparency and Accountability)
    2. The court hearing the case observed that “…even if it was assumed that EVM was stolen it appears that there was no dishonest intention on his part…”
    3. India’s Election Commission was asked to approve or disprove of whether or not the claim by Prasad that the machines could be tampered with. No answer has been given.
    4. It is unknown at the moment as to whether or not Prasad will appear in court again over this matter.

I think that Prasad will return to court to defend himself and he has a good argument on his hands for his case.

Hari Prasad is the technical coordinator of a group called VeTA (Verifiability, Transparency and Accountability). When his case was heard, the court observed that “…even if it was assumed that EVM was stolen it appears that there was no dishonest intention on his part…”

I understand from this article that even if there are good intentions involved, it is not always the best thing to do.

I don’t think that Prasad should have done what he did just to prove a point. There are other ways to get a point across that doesn’t involve what he did.

    http://fcw.com/articles/2010/09/15/report-makes-urgent-call-for-central-database-of-voting-machine-defects.aspx

    2. There’s nothing to show that the election officials can look for information that shows that e-voting has malfunctions. But Author Lawrence Norden keeps the officials aware that there are potential problems with the electronic voting machines. Norden says that if a system failure is in one place than it can occur in other areas. Norden also stated that we need new and better structure so the defects of e-voting are caught earlier. He has provided oven a dozen of examples that electronic voting has malfunctioned.

    3. Four facts that support the summary and its point of view are that Norden that 1. In March 2009 an election for the Fairfax county, that the combined total of the votes recorded 364 votes than people have signed up to vote that day. 2. In the District of Columbia in 2008 shows that one of the optical scanners made twice the registered population than there was. 3. In Orange county optical scanners failed to read results of absentee ballots. 4. They had the same problem in Napa Valley, Cali in 2004.

    4. My prediction is that people will look into and research why the electronic voting have these malfunctions. I also think that they might use different ways like electronic voting but some other way. After reading this I also think that people will start using hand ballots instead.

    5. Information about this passage is all the failures from all different things we used e-voting for. Norden says that since voting is so important to people they need to figure different ways to help it from not breaking down and getting everything mixed in all different things and ways.

    6. From this story, I understand that e-voting is not always such a great idea. You have to think of the negatives and positives because most of the time it fails. If you vote for one thing, who knows if it gets all malfunctioned and put a vote in for the other thing.

    7. My opinion on this topic is that people will start using hand ballots instead of electronic ballots. I don’t think e-voting is such a good idea because something total wrong could happen and it could ruin many things that you are voting for.

A recent survey from UK online centers shows that eVoting remains popular with the public, at least in principle. Some 93 per cent would have liked to vote online in the general election, while 63 per cent said they would be more likely to vote in the next election if they could do so online. Online voting is efficient, easier to access, and all around convenient at least thats what I think. While setting up and piloting eVoting and the infrastructure to support it, it has costs. These are not costs borne by the government, but by all the people who have to go out of their way to stand in queues to show they are good citizens. I* think that by the year 2014 Evoting will be the way everyone votes in elections, that way there would be no hassles with all the paper ballots. What I understood from this story was that eVoting could be the next way for people to vote their candidates in many elections. My question is How is all of this getting payed for , is the government going to pay for it or are our tax money being used? Something to think about whenever this happens to come to the US.

    3. Dumpster diving has become one of the most popular methods of identity theft among criminals, so be sure to use a cross cut shredder to destroy documents properly. Another favorite method of stealing identities that thieves have been utilizing over the past few years is called "vishing". Vishing is when someone calls you on the phone, misrepresents themselves as somebody else, and misleads you into providing personal information.

    4. My prediction ids that identity theft would never ever stop, unless we stop using any credit cards, social security, driver licenses. But we all know that is not goin to happen. people would try and will come up with better ideas to steal your identity.

  43. Dale Cameron, Who Commits Identity Theft, http://idtheft.about.com/od/preventionpractices/a/Who-IDTRings.htm
    Summary
That there are two types of identity theft that are covered in this article, they are organized identity theft and identity theft rings. Organized identity theft is when there is a data breach of a company or organization that compromises tens or hundreds of thousands of personal records. Identity theft rings are groups of individuals who come together to collect very usable information. You can protect your identity by having an identity protection program.
    4 Facts
    1. “Each category has specific characteristics or signs, and you must guard against them differently”.
    2. “Each category affects different types of victims”.
    3. “The number of victims a specific identity thief will harm varies”.
    4. “Not every major data breach indicates the work of organized identity thieves.”
    Prediction
I predict that there will be new advances in ways to protect peoples’ identity.
    Background and Details
Organized identity theft cannot be prevented because you cannot control your information if it is given to a company or organization. Even though there are identity theft protection laws such as FACTA and HIPAA, businesses have been slow to comply with these laws. Our judicial system has taken the teeth out of these laws through various decisions.
    Understanding
What I could understand from this story is, that I should entrust my personal information to as few companies and organizations as possible, to not let my personal data fall in the trash, and to get an identity protection program.
    Opinion
My opinion of this topic is that it is very informative and intresting
    Question
What are some of the other ways that people can prevent their identity from being stolen?

    Idenity thef
It happens when a person uses your personal idenification. “A 81 year old man is getting sentenced for idenity theft and social security fraud.usally it’s always somebody stealing from older people but this is a twist. His name is Lafayette Frederick Keaton has to serve 6 months of prison also 6 months of home confinement (limentation jail) for social security fraud for 13 years. “they say they usualy hve to give the elderly a voice”. He was for defrauding the Social Security Administration and the Department of Human Services .he used his dead brothers identity to get 139,000 in food stamps , social security and medicare benefits.the judge decided that because of his age and health that hewould serve a low term in prisoin but he has to pay full restitution. “He was just doing this to survive the right way without going out and doing something bad and buyin rolaxs watches He merly wanted the benefits” says the athour of this article
-Point of veiw-*the piont that was being made was that the man had to survive some kind of way *that still was not the right thing to do.
-Prediction-*He will serve his sentence and when he gets out he will find another way to survive that’s legal. I think he learned his lesson
-My opinion-He did what he had to do and he got caught eventally.many other people get away with it but unfornatly he got caught.
-My question-how does thr=e government aloww that to slip? They should know when the person has died and to cut of the checks . the person who is reciving it would not say “hey stop sending me free money and benefits”.
